St. James Chapel's Architectural History continued...

The glass may appear to be authentic 13th-century Gothic in its majestic gold, crimson and purple glow, but closer inspection reveals color gradation and juxapositions that are not to be found in the windows of Sainte-Chapelle or any other windows of the 13th century. A close look at the scenes themselves reveals that they were rendered in correct perspective, a Renaissance innovation unknown to Medieval artists. What we also see in the windows of the St. James Chapel is a glass tonality that is superbly of its time, Art Noveau and eart Art Deco in inspiration, as should be expected from a sensitive artistic interpretation of the artistic precendent in the early 1920s.
