Tour the Windows at St. James

The Windows of the St. James Chapel continued...

Like the great cathedrals of Europe who windows tell inter-related stories, the windows of the St. James Chapel also relate stories from the Bible. St. James Chapel's windows are read left to right, top to bottom in each lancet.

Now more than 75 years old, the windows of the St. James Chapel are in danger. Thanks to the French Ministry of Culture, Jean-Marie Bettembourg, France's leading expert in stained glass restoration, spent two weeks in 1994 examining the windows and discovered they were in a serious state of disrepair due to lead deterioration, pollution and extreme temperatures through the years. The Friends of the Windows, a non-denominational group working to save the windows, is raising the funds for the multi-million- dollar restoration effort.
